I remember a Goddess religion was very popular among feminists in the 1980's.... then it dried up. Not so many of them anymore. What happened?

  1. It's there.  It will find you if you were meant to be part of it.

  2. idk, everything i post about placenta recipes gets reported so i guess there is a shortage of moon sisters here at the moment

  3. Dried up? It's still going strong round these parts :-) (south England)

  4. I see it plenty. It's just been integrated. You know, it's like when someone who isn't strictly hetero comes out of the closet and for a while they need to be really in your face about it. We seek equilibrium. Also, when something is new and exciting, it gets more attention. There are plenty of goddess worshipers around. They may or may not be loud about, may or may not identify with Wicca. All told, however, they are unlikely to make the evening news. Old news doesn't sell.

  5. Dianic Wicca. There is a temple about 20 miles from my home.

  6. Wicca is traditionally about gender equality and features both a god and a goddess.  However, that notion of euqlity was very empowering to women in the 1960s and for some it started to evolve into Goddess religion, which really took on an entirely different theology from Wicca.  By the 1990s (and different people will certainly give you different dates on this), however, the community was generally recognising that Goddess religion is not Wicca.  It's Goddess religion, and it started calling itself that.  There's still plenty of Goddess worshippers, they just aren't calling themselves Wiccans anymore.

One such path is represented at reclaiming.org.

  7. It's very popular where I live.  Georgia.  Many wicca chicks.  It's an alternative to southern baptism, conservatism and the bible belt.

had many a spell cast on me from those southern girls!

  8. It is still going on.  I never knew it was a feminist religion though....sounds a bit like self worshiping if you use it in that sense.
