Metacom (or King Philip), was the Wampanoag leader in the 1600s when puritans landed at Plymouth, and he died in war with them. his skull was on display at plymouth for 25 years. I'm trying to find out what happened to the skull after 25 years.

  1. The skull was displayed on a pike at the entrance to the Fort -- which means it was exposed to the elements over 25 years.   Bones become quite brittle after such exposure to weather and insects -- it probably just disintegrated over time.

    From Wiki --

Hunted by a group of rangers led by Captain Benjamin Church, Metacom was fatally shot by Praying Indian John Alderman, on August 12, 1676, on Mount Hope in Bristol, Rhode Island. After his death, his wife and eight-year-old son were captured and sold as slaves in Bermuda, while his head was mounted on a pike at the entrance to Fort Plymouth where it remained for over two decades.

  2. I really shouldn't say this, but it's on display at my old frat house: Skull & Bones at Yale University.
