I used to go there all the time and now I heard it shut down. What's the deal with that?

  1. In September of 2005, Six Flags announced that after 37 years they'd be closing AstroWorld and selling the land.  Many factors contributed to this decision including the dropping attendance and the increase in value of the property the park was on.  It closed in October 2005.  I got to go the weekend before it closed and I barely got to ride anything because they had already started disassembaling some of the rides and many of the coasters had super-long lines due to the fact they were only running 1 or 2 cars or trains per rides.

After the shut down, there was an auction for park items in January of 2006.  Once the auction was over, it was a matter of weeks before the property was leveled and cleaned up.  I believe it is now part of parking for the Reliant Park Complex (where the Houston Texans play football).

Many of the rides have been installed at other parks under different names.  Some of them haev stayed in Texas and the surrounding areas.

  2. not enough business. They were in the process of ripping down all the rides, but i havent heard anything lately. I'm guessing it's just a big dump now.

  3. i guess there wasnt enough business. i went there once and i loved it.

  4. it got torn down it did not get enough business. i think it is really sad when they tear rides and amusment parks down. October 31st of 2006 or something like that was there last day open. :(

i have never been there but i wanted to go.
