    Warren Mehrtens

    One of only 10 jockeys to ride a Triple Crown winner when he rode Assault to victories in the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness and Belmont in 1946; retired from racing in 1952 and served as a steward at several tracks; cause of death not given

    Died: Miami, Jan. 5, 1998 aged 77
