so what happened to all the good SUVs? i have a 1998 blazer and i need a newer vehicle. but all the SUVs i've test driven are too car like. i like the part where my vehicle has a lot of play in the steering and that it leans in the turns and that i can drive and not worry about ground clearance unless i'm going deep off road and too fast. but the new SUVs are lower than mine and handle too close for cars for my taste. so my question is what SUV is out there that is similar to mine is handling, maybe bigger too tahoe/suburban size. i'm i just going to have to buy a crew cab truck? i've driven the chevy and ford SUVs, not opposed to foreign just like the Americans better.

  1. land rover range rover is what you want, sporty but still an suv...

  2. Try the Ford Escape.

  3. Your Blazer is body-on-frame construction, a building technique that is durable, but heavy. The extra weight means needlessly poor fuel economy for those people who never venture into the wilderness any further than the parking lot at the mall.

So-called "crossover" SUVs are built on front-wheel drive automotive chassis. They handle better on the road and are more economical, but they do not have quite the off-road capability of your Blazer.

In the meantime, there is no shortage of body-on-frame utes. They include the Chevy Trailblazer/GMC Envoy,, Ford Expedition/Mercury Mountaineer, Chevy Tahoe/ GMC Yukon Denali/Cadillac Escalade, Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator, Toyota FJ, Sequoia and Land Cruiser, Nissan Pathfinder. Xterra and Armada, Jeep Wrangler, Liberty Commander and Grand Cherokee, Dodge Nitro and Durango.

  4. A good 4x4 is the Toyota Forerunner.
