Question:

What happened to his ankle?..?

A couple of years ago, my dad was playing rugby with some people, And whilst playing rugby, a very large man (about 20stone?) stood on his ankle, at an angle (with studs on his shoes) . Everyone heard it crunch, but when my dad went and got an x-ray, it said that he was fine, so the hospital dismissed it. It has been about 3 years since this incident, and my dad still gets very bad pain from his ankle, and if he moves it, it sounds like a crunching, like something grinding together.

I am worried for my dad, this if nothing is done, it might develop into something worse.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

And what should he do about it?

Thankyou a lot.

  1. sounds liek what io just ddi to both my ankles, tell him to go get a MRI to look at  the ligaments he might have torn them and they didnt heal right.

X-rays dont show ligaments or muscles just bones,.

  2. There are lots of small knobbly bones in the ankle/foot that can cause this problem. especially if they have been dislocated or even slightly out of alignment. All/any of them have the potential to rub/grate against each other and cause pain,

You don't say how old your father is but if 'getting on a bit' in his thirties or forties it could also be the onset of arthritis. A trip to his local GP for a consultation and perhaps a referal to an orthopaedic consultant might well be a prudent move.

  3. bones out of place , cracked bones , go for a check up and dont leave till they give you a good answer to this problem :P

hope your dads ankle gets better sooon

  4. maybe its discolated and keeps popping in and out but he should really go to the hospital and see if something can be done

  5. he should go to his doctor and ask for a another x-ray, he may have a piece of floating bone in there that requires sorting.

A similar sort of thing happened to my wife some years ago she had an x-ray and was told everything was fine and then some time later her g.p. asked her how her brocken toe was doing as the hospital had informed himshe had brocken her toe but had not informed her about this ?

  6. It could well have been broken and /or dislocated at the time.  Also a popping sound can also come from tendon/ ligament damage.  I would say he should go and see his doctor and get a referral to the hospital.
