  1. I talk to men sometimes, but usually I talk to a machine or some guy named "Sev" (Steve) from India (or somewhere) they have attempted to Americanize.

  2. A lot of companies mostly hire women for this kind of job (lots of interaction with the public) because the woman have a track record of being friendlier to the customers.

  3. No, they're not allowed to have those jobs. Haven't you heard about the feminist law that was passed making it so that only women can have low-paying customer service positions? Didn't you hear about the mass firings of men from these jobs a couple years ago?

I can't believe you didn't know about this...

  4. They died with the dinosaurs......

And I have to explain this? Geez...

  5. All of you are wrong. Women have most of these jobs because they are better at it. Oops! Was that sexist? Oh, please don't whine. A female voice is softer and nicer to listen to for most people (especially for the so-called "male dominated society"). I am sure I'm not alone in saying that when I'm fit-to-be-tied because of some company error I am usually defused by the pleasant sound of a woman's voice on the other line of said company. Companies know this works!

I thought about the same thing with women reporters (especially the surge of women sports reporters) and television commercials.  At first I thought, "Dang, where have the men gone?" Then I thought, "Dang, when I watch Fox and Friends I'd rather have the camera trained on Gretchen Carlson rather than Steve Ducey."  Fox seems to know that if they don't comply with my wish that  I'm switching to Robin Meade on Headline News. And, of course, I'll watch their commercials. So be it! It's all about the money.

  6. Haha...whenever I phone up customer service someone that can't speak English in Bombay answers.... :-/

  7. When you phone 'em up you are usually answered by a feminist telephone robot who has you pressing numbers on the keypad forever and then finally loses your connection. Otherwise you are answered by a gentleman in India who tries his best to be helpful but can't.

It's not just service reps. Men are being removed from our telly screens. The news readers, the weathermen, and even the voiceovers in documentaries, are all being phased out and replaced by jenny-come-latelies.

  8. Most men don't like such jobs.

It's like being a receptionist.... nuff said

  9. Actually for this one I'd have to admit women are probably generally better at it. Soft skills are important. But on the other hand it's still a lame job. I don't think anyone ever rises to become a "star" CSR. Might be a good way to get in with a company and then move on though.

  10. I get pretty much the same number of men and women. When I used to work in a call centre it was about the same number too.

  11. I'm glad you posted this, I actually answered you in the other question where you said this already, so thanks.

Women have always had phone jobs, that's how they got into the job market in the first place, as secreatries. If you're willing to take those jobs I'll gladly be a CEO in your stead. I don't know why it bothers you that there are more women having jobs that most people don't want or consider demeaning.

Have you ever worked in a call center?

Most people look down on those jobs.

  12. I've had two separate occasions in the past two days to call service centers for problems (one was Yahoo) (both times it was my laptop where the problem lay).  Both times young men took my calls.  Neither one spoke English well.  Both were VERY polite and VERY knowledgeable.  Both walked me through how to fix my problems.  God bless both of them; they were wonderful.  Didn't care male/female one way or t'other.  All I wanted was my problem fixed.

  13. When I worked at a call centre, the office was almost two-thirds women. I don't know how to explain that, but it happened that way.

  14. Like everything else, it will all get back to the organized and systematic way that men are keeping women down in society.

Jobs that are typically done by men are sexist jobs.  Jobs that are typically done by women are sexist jobs.  Male-heavy jobs are keeping women out, female-heavy jobs just suck.  Basically, all jobs are sexist against women in one way or another.

  15. Thank God I get mostly guys when I call those places, ESPECIALLY phone companies. If I get a woman who answers the phone, I'll hang up and call back until I get a guy.

A lot od customer service women will argue with you until they are blue in the face and then tell you..Sorry I can't do anything, no matter what your problem is..Grrrr!

  16. The nice guys in customer service, they are still there and doing a great job. Thanks

  17. I haven't noticed that.  I tend to get a mix of female and male reps......same goes for collectors.  I just got a call today from a male collector for my unpaid car bill.  Oops.

  18. I don't know. I don't care.

  19. Looking for higher pay, they left.  And I'm sure they are welcome back...but they don't want to go back!
