  1. Along with taking it easy he is in the process of opening a big school in Illinois which is where he is from.  He is also doing some training seminars at some of the NASKA national tournaments as well as has a promotion and advertising contract with several companies, Century being one of the them.  His recent defeat I am sure is not the way he wants to go out.  I think he is content to wait for the right fight in the meantime and get serious about training and then maybe try to go out on a high note when it comes along if it is not too long or if the right match-up presents itself.  This may become harder though as more quality fighters are out there than cards and titles in the UFC right now and he lost his last fight.  Fighting his way back up through the rankings is something that he probably does not want to do but sometimes matches get made, or someone gets hurt and drops out and someone else steps in to fight.  Don't count him out quite yet is what I say.

  2. matt hughes found out he wasnt as good as matt hughes thought he was.

  3. make no mistake about matt hughes being an old guy. he's a conditioning freak just like randy couture.

bottom line....his heart isn't in it anymore. he's been spending alot more time teaching and coaching his team...as well as doing more important things like spending time with his wife and kid. he's always going to be involved with the sport though.

just like cro cop....his last few fights ..he just wasnt the same guy it seemed like. but hes a special operations officer...if you think hes too old or out of shape you're wrong. his heart just wasnt in it anymore....i imagine after a while it becomes meaningless...you have nothing left to prove and you move on. hence the reason rany couture really retired...it wasnt just the money and disrespect...but also that he beat practically everyone there was to beat...save fedor. but it wasnt going to happen so he left.

  4. He lost quickly. You can't turn your back on this sport for a second. The fighters are constantly improving. If these older fighters don't keep with it.It will catch up with them & the next man will win.

  5. Was he really? He fought in Europe a few months ago and it isn't like him to take fights so close together.

  6. He fought a few weeks ago and was defeated by thiago silva

  7. he got beat up by thiago alves about a month ago at ufc 85...

he'll prolly fight matt serra at the end of the year and then retire
