What happened to my computer???

I left my computer in the trunk of my car for a few days, as I moved into college, and now that I am in my permanent dorm, I bring it in and hook it up, but it does not work......

I don't understand how leaving it in the trunk of my car for a few days in Missouri temperatures, could have ruined it....

Don't computers get twice or three times as hot when in use???

  1. No, your computer has a pretty intricate cooling system when it is running, blowing air directly on the parts that get the hottest.  In the trunk of your car, it is getting very hot, with nothing to cool down those part, and also heating up parts of your laptop that wouldn't normally see that sort of heat (i.e. your LCD screen).  So if by "it does not work" you mean, it doesn't turn on, I may have some bad news for ya.  I think she's dead.  Sorry man.

  2. Computers can get much hotter, around 120 degrees, but that might not be the reason your computer stopped working; if it was in the trunk of your car during move-in some of your other belongings may have smashed it around a bit, or something like that; I wouldn't say temperature is the major factor in why your computer is acting up.  What I would say to do is do a factory reset of all your hardware using the disc that came with it or the backup hard drive that came with it; that should get you up and running again.

  3. Check the power supply for a on/off  switch then you might need to crack open the case and check the power connections. It is possible the power supply is dead, which are fairly easy to replace.

  4. Well if its really humid in Missouri, its could have possibly damaged your components, so try leaving it in a room for a few days and try again, then again, it was in a car its really bumpy in the trunk because there s no cushion or seat for your computer so there could have been shock and could have harmed your pc, and there is also the fact of static electricity, it could have also harmed your computer

So try opening it and make sure it isn't damp, try to locate loose switches or wire that seem to be unplugged, and look for damaged hardware, and remeber you power supply should be plugged in nice and snuggy and your keyboard and video card to even start up

  5. First pull the side cover off make shore you Memory cards are seated in titer, check the power supply to the mother Bord. but first hold the power button in for a few seconds to drain the power from it and make shore you ground yourself by touching the bare metal inside the tower.

  6. What do you mean "it does not work"? It won't power up? Error messages? Blank screen? More information is needed to help you.
