There's two distinct type of parents. One that clearly wants the TV to be a babysitter. Those types of parents love this "new" Sesame Street". Because, this SS is much more preachy and moralist.
I think the other type of parent is the one that doesn't "need" children's shows to be overly protective. Rather, they want their children to be able to laugh and learn. And, they want to be able to enjoy watching the show with their child.
I prefer the second type of parenting. And, I also prefer people like Lewis Carroll who wrote brilliant, imaginative and quirky children's stories that didn't focus on morals and didn't feel like a parent or teacher being overly preachy towards the child. In fact, he kinda chuckled at that idea. His stories like Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass were superb for both kids and their parents.
A movie like the Chipmunks. Or the new Sesame Street. These are shows appeal only for the parent that want the show itself to babysit their child.
It's sad that clever humour, imagination and fun are disappearing from such shows and movies. Only to be replaced by overprotectiveness and a sense of being a preachy moralist.
