What happened to student protesters?

What happened to student protesters? They were so prevalent in the 60's and 70's but they've virtually disappeared in the U.S. I know other countries still have student protests, so why don't we do it anymore? If we did, I bet we could tackle problems such as high tuition prices, war, and oil prices. I am a senior in high school and want to figure out how to inspire other teens to stand up for what they believe in. So I guess my question is:

What happened to student protesters? How can I revive that movement and make changes? And how can I inspire others to fight for their beliefs?

  1. Maybe many of them now organize on the internet.

  2. People seem to be expressing their dissenting opinions more on the internet. The trouble with that is, it's only visible to those who go looking for those opinions.

My dad grew up in that era, even went to Washington to participate in some of the protests. He wonders today where the outrage is over the present state of our nation.

I think the communication on the internet is all well and good, but it's virtually invisible to the nation at large. People who really believe in fighting should stand up in public to get their message out to those who are not sitting on their computers blogging or whatever about standing up for their beliefs.

  3. maybe they don't want to get shot..   remember Kent State?

or murdered and dumped on some back round in the boondocks..

quite a few are caught up in consumerism...

and quite a few are caught up in what is called apathy...

  4. Playstation 1, 2 & 3!

  5. They became complacent.

  6. education in America is in a rescission too

the last protest in America were the Mega Marches for civil Rights and Amnesty for Latinos in May 1st 2006

    The biggest ever!

  7. They grew up and had children! Those children watched their pot head parents struggle to balance a bank book, make a reasonable living, and otherwise try to get along with a substandard education. Now they are in school and the bullshit their parents pulled is totally uninteresting to them. They correctly see the brainwashing from the liberals for what it is and the reform the world movement as a distraction form getting the best education money can buy! They want to join the shrinking ranks of the affluent. They do not want to make massive changes to the world, They do not want to make the piece of pie smaller. They want as much as they can get so bye bye liberals.

  8. Today's generation think it is easier to sit around and complain then to actually do something to change it. They are lazy, uninvolved and are not having to pay for things themselves. More are interested in Hollywood and other things than civic duties.

  9. NO KIDDING! I've been wondering that myself. I guess they are too self involved. In these days of internet p**n,video games and right wing religious agendas there are just too many distractions-a tragedy really as  any government that feels entirely invulnerable can become quite dangerous and abusive.

  10. the new generation of students are under educated, cowards and apathetic.

The media should feel proud of it.

  11. HAVING LIVED THROUGH THAT ERA, THE STUDENTS TODAY ARE SOFT AND LAZY, WITHOUT THE HINT OF A CONSCIENCE. THE MAIN REASON BACK THEN WAS THE DRAFT. YOU MOVED TO CANADA, HID IN THE WOODS, OR BECAME ELIGIBLE TO SERVE IN A LOST WAR. (OF COURSE, THERE WERE EXCEPTIONS LIKE GEORGE W.BUSH AND BILL CLINTON). WE ARE IN A SELF SERVING GENERATION THAT ONLY CAN CONJURE UP THEIR PRESENT COMFORTS. THEY START OFF WITH THE BEST OF INTENTIONS BUT, LIKE VOTING, SELDOM FOLLOW THROUGH. TO FIGHT THE GRIDLOCK AND FAILURE OF THE OUR REPRESENTATIVES, YOU MUST BE AS STRONG AND RESOLUTE AS THEY. YOU MUST MOUNT THE RAMPARTS AND FIGHT AS THOUGH YOUR EXISTENCE DEPENDED ON IT BECAUSE IT DOES. THEY WILL MISLABEL YOU, UNDERMINE YOUR MOVEMENT, AND, WHO KNOWS, YOU MIGHT EVEN END UP IN GUANTANAMO. IF YOUR IS JUST, IT WILL BE WORTH IT.

  12. Perhaps if you were  to suggest to them that The Gov has so little fear of them that they send out their riot police equipped with credit cards,Safe Cards and American Express Cards to remove protesters and that instead of tear gas all it takes is a mention of immediate special sales at malls  to disperse protesters. Another way is to say that The Gov is more afraid of the disease people may have than the people. That The Gov regards citizens as Couch N'RS  and Monetary N'RS. That TheGov Regards them as unwashed Couch N'RS even
