What happened to that guy that rode that BIG!! BIG!! wave??

A jetski was standing by to come in and they picked him up. Really. Saw the movie. Dropped him in by helicopter and more and a series of jetskis were spread out to retrieve him. Looked very dangerous. It ranks up there with an Evel Knievel record jump. A one time stunt that was very carefully planned.

Which BIG, BIG wave?  There are couple of dozen guys who are are known for big wave riding.  Clues would help.  Wet suit or not, what color was the water, white guy or not, what did the wave look like (barrel, left, right, did it have ledges on the face).

BTW, no one has verifiably ridden a 100 ft wave yet.  I believe the largest documented wave to date is around 66 feet, although that may have been beaten this month.   Check out http://www.billabongxxl.com.

Laird Hamilton was the surfer, Jaws was the location, the size 100 feet.
