What happened to that one American Girl Doll Series?

Does anyone remember that American girl doll series called dolls of the world? They wrote several books; there was one from Ireland, another from France, England, Africa, and so on. I read several of the books, and one day I got the catalog (which I did not order, but it keeps coming anyhow) and noticed they weren't selling the dolls anymore. Does anyone know why the cancelled the series?

All the dolls of the world were burned back in 2002.

They are called Girls of many lands. They were retired unfortunately. I am not sure why though. American girl has retired a lot of stuff I think because it was un successful. You can still find them though online and at second hand shops and yard sales. Good Luck
