  1. They are still around.  My great grandmother was a full-blooded Cherokee.  Hate the terminology, Indian, I really do.  I believe they should get land and financial compensation but must also accept modernization. It is better for them to go into a partnership with government instead of working against the larger society, which they must adjust to and accept.  This doesn't negate the possibility of self-rule over tribal homelands.
