  1. This tournament is cancelled for good. So it will never be played. Olympics has nothing to do with it. Acura Classic wont be played ever regardless of whether it is an Olympic year or not

  2. This year's Sony Ericsson WTA tour is scheduled bet 7/28-8/3. Draws are not out yet. Strangely, ATP Tennis has no info on it. But I'd found it out on Google. Yes, there are a lot of tournaments going on right now.

  3. The above answer has nothing to do with the question..

Yes, you are right. It is canceled because is was scheduled too close to the Olympics. Maria Sharapova, the defending Champion, will lose 450 points.

  4. Actually I believe last year's event was the last time the tournament was going to be played. It was reported that  tournament was going to be canceled altogether at the end of last years event where Maria Sharapova successfully defended her title.

The tournament was put up for sale and the WTA bought it out from any other independent investors, and then acting on the vision of Larry Scott, its chairman and CEO, the WTA quickly resold the tournament to tennis interests in Beijing in attempt to expand the tennis market to that part of the world and to create a more flexible calender for the players. To archive this  vision Scott decided to eliminate the Acura Classic from the tennis calender.

You can click on the link below which will provide you with a more detailed account with what really happened to the Acura Classic and the role that Larry Scott played in it.

Here is just a little historical facts from the tournament:

Although the tournament achieved the Tier I status only recently (2004), it became a draw to the heavyweights in women's tennis since its inception in the 1980s, being a crucial warm-up tournament leading to the US Open. Past champions of the tournament include former world number ones Steffi Graf, Jennifer Capriati, Lindsay Davenport, Venus Williams, Martina Hingis, Justine Henin and Maria Sharapova. Six players won the tournament more than once, four of them consecutively. Graf holds the record for most wins (4); Venus Williams holds the record for most consecutive titles (3).
