I think some people were offended with the accent or association of chihuahuas with Mexican food. Or PETA being worried that the dogs were being mistreated, something like that.

It could be that it just stopped working as a mascot and they decided to drop it.

Anyway, I have the talking toy and it still works. Yo quiero Taco Bell! =)

I remember reading that many people felt it's Latino accent was insulting and insensitive,  as was their slogan "Run for the border".

Companies change marketing strategies all the time. In this case Taco Bell simply decided that the dog gimmick was getting old and decided to try a new marketing strategy.

This happens all the time like when they blew up Jack from Jack in the box. They brought him back though so maybe they'll bring back the dog.

F I R E D! Just like the guy who would run to the border commerical. That commerical happened before the dog commercial. Which the dog commerical made me less hungy, like maybe they serve dog instead of cow beef.
