  1. well, think about it this way. When the world is getting hotter, it's going to melt the ice near the north pole. And those water will be COLD COLD COLD. So, hence, in some part of the world, it will be colder....until later on...it'll become warmer again.

  2. Well, lots of reasons go into climate change, 1) continental drift can cause changes 2) there is a 100,000 year ice age cycle caused by crazy orbital movement 3) our ozone traps certain gases that warm the earth even without the sun 4) sun fluctuations can cause waves in the heat so sometimes we get less, sometimes more.

Now, global warming as caused by humans: so the main thing is that weather happens in cycles and that the world has ways of righting itself. So, there is this cycle the Earth has of getting rid of CO2, called the carbon cycle. It's been proven by ice core studies that when CO2 gets too high, the earth gets really hot from the greenhouse effect and in reaction to that the world tries to get rid of the excess CO2 in carbon sinks, usually the ocean and in plants. As the CO2 gets leached away, the temperature drops. As it builds up we get warmer. The problem is, ever since the industrial revolution we have released more than the earth can get rid of, so 2 years ago was as hot as we've ever recorded. Now it's cooling off, so why?

One possibility is that maybe the Earth is so hot glaciers are melting causing a drop in oceanic (and thus land) temps as the ice gives way. It also causes a rise in ocean levels. As the ocean level rises, more carbon can get dumped into the ocean and so there is less insulation in the ozone so we get cooler. We've observed the glacial loss, but as far as I know no one has proven the latter part of that. That's my personal belief.

  3. Just because there is global warming does not mean that ever day will be hot (or hotter than usual). It just means that the average global temperature is rising so on average the days will be warmer more often in most places on the earth.

  4. Well, here in the UK, we're having our hottest May on record with flash floods and forest fires too.  So, I guess that's why they call it global warming and not IMBY warming.

  5. Short term, the weather can do anything.  Long term, global warming is still happening.

Short term cooling happened in 1982, 1991-1992, 1999-2000.  EVERY TIME global warming came back stronger than ever.  Proof.

  6. I believe they're now calling it climate change because the warming thing doesn't make sense anymore. Yes, something seems very fishy to me...

  7. Nope nothing seems fishy. That seems just about right. Unusual weather conditions and temperature fluctuations. Pretty standard climate change. The fact is it was never called global warming at the start at first it was called cliate change but people weren't interested so they called it global warming, more ominous but wholly inaccurate. Also what does the government have to with this. It is a global matter not simply an American one.

How come whenever I point out I'm a climatologist I get thumbs down yet you believe those who never looked at the topic?

  8. I understand people are saying it's 'global warming in the long run', but I made the exact same complaint today as you!! I live in the midwest and everyday i'm FREEZING. I'm SICK of FREEZING! So, although i understand global warming is in affect, I still question it when i'm still needing to wear winter clothes nearing summer

  9. This is a big deal to AGW thoery even though it may come back.  Why might you ask?  According to the thoery Carbon emissions are the main driver, combined with positive feedbacks they out pace any other possibility.  We have cooled over the last  half decade (according to most satalite measurements, I have posted the links in prior posts.  The positive feedback of water vaport as it goes to warming will also be a positive feedback to cooling.  a .5 deg. temp drop will drop the amount of water vapor, farther cooling the earth dropping more water vapor.  Get ready for the next ice age.  Maybe the Russians are correct.

    TO mara ann.

Sorry but "3) our ozone traps certain gases that warm the earth even without the sun" violates almost every law of physics.  LOL.  Ozone is not a heat source, the ozone layer is cooler altitude is cooler than the lower altitude, so by the laws in thermodynamics a cooler object can not heat a warmer object.

  10. its b.s. and i would never listen to the govenment, here is a fact the earth is changing , always has always will , this is not somthing new  , but its making them money
