  1. There is at least one and maybe more on preserved steam lines in the southwest.

  2. According  to my book that I have at home called British Steam Locomotives by H C Casserley,  Mr Collett the then Loco Superintendent for GWR decided that the GWR should build 4-6-0 engine should be built. two versions of slightly different dimensions. Originally 100 of both types were planned. The larger  was the Grange class weighing 74 tons (engine only) only 80 were built before the second world war with the following numbers 6800 - 6879. None of these trains survive. the smaller train called the Manors was 68 tons and the following have survived: 7808 Cookham Manor and is in working order at Didcot. 7827 Lydham Manor at the Dart Valley 7812 & 7819 Erlestoke Manor & the Hinton Manor can be found on my home local preserved railway : Severn Valley.

The 7820 Dinmore Manor is due for restoration on the West Somerset  & 7822 Foxcote Manor is at the Cambrian Society, Oswestry.

Do not forget that this book was published in 1988 so the detail will have changed since it was first published.

  3. The Great Western Railway (GWR) 6800 Class or Grange Class was a class of steam locomotive. 80 were built.

The Granges were rebuilt from 4300 Class 2-6-0s, using the wheels and motion from those engines. World War 2 stopped this programme however and only 80 were rebuilt from the 300 strong 4300 Class. They were effectively a smaller-wheeled version of the GWR Hall Class.

GWR also built a lighter version of the Granges, the GWR 7800 Class, known as the Manor Class.

The Granges all fell victim to the cutters torch and none made it into preservation. The 6880 society (based at Llangollen) Are recreating the next Grange that was due to be built by the GWR. Betton Grange is currently under construction at the Llangollen railway.
