  1. Te Kapo o Pango was written as a specific haka with meaning to the All Blacks.  In Maori-dom and I will say true Maori-dom, if you ever stood up and performed Ka Mate as you war haka you'd get laughed at.  Its a Haka which pretty much translate to a guy running from a tribe and hiding in a hole which a female stood over to hide him.  Now you tell me, it that consider to be a war cry, running and hiding.  Get a grip with real Maoridom, pick up a book and learn something in this day and age.  Te Kapo O Pango is a Haka with relevance.  The slitting of the neck doesnt even translate into the haka, this Haka should become the first choice Haka because it is What the AB's represent.  Learn Te Reo Maori and Tikanga Maori if you want to have a true understanding of Te Haka in this day and age.

  2. The throat slitting at the end was too aggressive (which is BS) and they were told they can do the haka without the throat slitting. But I think they replied that they'll do it right or not at all.

  3. The new Haka was only ever meant to quiet down members of Ngati Toa who were looking to claim recompense for te rapraha's haka being used by the NZRU. Having been shown that the public would stand for another Haka, Ngati Toa stopped their requests and we could return to the Traditional haka. Apart from the untraditional use within New Zealand of course

  4. I don't know what has happened to it or why they are not performing it, but I was supprised to see it not performed in the South Island. Ka mate is Te Rauparaha's and he was an enemy of the South Island Iwi, so his haka is not well recieved there because of the history between them. I would of thought that that point had been made to the All Blacks, and I thought it was one reason why they were doing another haka.

  5. It was one that was written specifically for the All Blacks and only to be used on special occasions.  I think they just haven't used it yet this year, we'll see it.

  6. Nothing, it just hasnt been performed yet this year thats all, it reserved for special occasions i believe.

  7. Ha don't think there are amny maori in the team so good on mealamu

  8. I hope it's gone for good it was horrible.  And confusing - either it's done as a tradition or it's not and if it's a tradition then it shouldn't be changed.  Or maybe we can just have various haka written for lots of different occasions which is what seems to be the case these days.  Sadly I think it's  completely over-used now with 'spontaneous' haka all over the place at sports events, weddings, graduations etc.  I always thought it was supposed to be a challenge.  However, I particularly disliked the throat slitting gesture at the end of the new haka.

  9. I think there was nothing wrong with the throat slitting it's a challenge man do people want the Ab's to bring them flowers or something.

Anyway I think Kapa O Pango is probably gone because everyone already knows Ka Mate so it's easier for the new players to do where as Kapa O Pango is new so they'll have to learn the actions and words too.

  10. I was wondering that too...I really like the Kapa O Pango...but I suppose they have games to practice for instead of focussing on the haka

  11. It is reserved only for special occassions.

As for those people on here who say it was horrible and agressive.  PLEASE!  You clearly do not understand maori culture.  Just because Pakeha may view it as agressive because that's what they do in their culture, it is not what it means in maori culture.  In fact those of other ethnicities such as from asia and india actually enjoyed it, because they understand about the uniqueness of culture.  Come on now we do not all have to fall in uniform with that of Queen Elizabeth!

  12. it got dumped.  And I am glad.  I no longer live in NZ, and have always been really proud when the All Blacks do the Haka.  The Aussies will never in a million years ever have anything that defines them as the Haka defines the kiwis.

But that god awful throat slitting peice was a source of huge embarrassment.  I was left explaining to everyone I worked with what it meant.

It translated outside of NZ as a wish of death, not a declaration of war as the Haka is.

    Good bloody riddance.

  13. Some thought it was to aggressive ..others thought we should not vary from the true tradition of the haka because  of it being stepped in pride  & passion in the all black jumper and only an elite few have the responsibilty of a nation, so i"m glad we kept with tradition in memory of our forefathers who led us into battle.....one word..........RESPECT

  14. Te raupraha's haka is an insult to many maori, and it is kind of weird that the AB's saw fit to adopt it as their own.

Fact is it is not their's, and it is not New Zealand's - it is Te raupraha's, a brutal savage of man who slaughtered and enslaved thousands. (but his haka is seen as better and less violent - crazy!)

I think if a pre-requisit for making the first 15 was to have kids spend time with a kapa haka group, we would eventually have All Blacks performing more apropriate haka.

It's ridiculous that so many kiwis feel pride in seeing "the" haka performed but have no idea about its origins, meaning, or significance.

It's only a matter of time before kids who can actually speak Te Reo fluently start making S14 teams and then pulling on the black jumper - think we will then start to see some "new' haka.

  15. justjan you are a p***y !! ,who gives a **** what foreigners think about the throat slitting or about our haka's everything today is too pansy P.C. harden up !! sounds like you did us a favor by buggering off overseas !!

  16. All the people who knew the new haka have buggered off overseas, so now no one remembers how it went.

  17. Hopefully the AB's are keeping it until we face  Dingo Deans and the 'long tailed bouncing rats'.

  18. I reckon lol I really liked that haka so fierce lol and would like to see a maori lead the haka for a change no offense to mealamu lol... "To RK isnt Richard Kahui Maori... and why arnt there many in AB's sad"...

  19. The new haka was only made with the world cup victory in mind.  It would of taken the place of Ka Mate in all the sponsors ads promoting "the new world cup champions", and NZRFU wouldn't have to share the rights to it with any Maori tribe. With the world cup lost, the had to go back to what everyone associated with the ABs

  20. Someone had the good sense to realise that Take That dance routines before rugby matches wasn't intimidating in the slightest.

  21. my theory is they use it for must win games
