What happened to the sinkhole in Houston?

Last I heard was early may. Googled it and only go tthose first reports. msot recent i found was on the 16th when they said an alligator found it's way into it.

What happened and what caused it?

It stopped growing, and it is being attributed to erosion caused by an underground water source.
