What happened to this case?

Now here’s a story.

A few years ago the high-jump star Hestrie Cloete left her husband for the Afrikaans singer Jurie Els. Later, the newly married couple announced that they were emigrating to New Zealand. Els said they were fed-up with crime, lack of service delivery and bad management. “I am tired of driving through potholes for four hours to get to a concert, and when I get there, the power is off … people are concerned about their safety and don’t come to concerts at night,” the singer said at one of his farewell concerts. “We are trying to make a statement as a wake-up call to the government.”

Meanwhile, a seemingly unrelated story played itself out in the pages of Beeld. Singer Robbie Klay told the newspaper that he had been molested for seven years by a man who is very well known in the Afrikaans music industry. Klay (21) didn’t name the man, and neither did Beeld. But after the story appeared, others have come forward, saying they knew who Klay was talking about and they had also been molested by the same man. Still, Beeld refrained from publishing his name. But Huisgenoot and You had no such qualms. They planned to run Klay’s story, naming the alleged culprit. The man got to know about this, and launched an urgent application in the High Court to silence the magazines. Judge RT Sutherland granted an interdict restraining Huisgenoot and You from running the article.

This in itself is a story, because the learned judge seemed not to have taken account of the previous year’s Supreme Court of Appeals ruling that prior restraint is hardly ever an appropriate remedy. Be that as it may, in launching the application, the man shot himself in the foot. Because in South Africa, crime-ridden and badly managed as it may be, court proceedings are open and public. And so we know the applicant in the proceedings against Huisgenoot and You was none other than … Jurie Els, now in New Zealand.

What happened to the case? Anybody knows?

  1. Nothing yet.

I want to believe Robbie, but I just cant. Hopefully a judge could see through all the drama and get to the bottom of it

  2. It is currently on the desk of investigating officer John Michaels of Interpol Wellington . That is after it caught the attention of NZ minister of police ,Anette King ,who was bombarded with questions by ''Solidariteit'' about the possibility of an extradition order .

Meanwhile ,his Cd's does not sell according to his promotor as no shops want to purchase his Cd's .

Jurie and Hestrie are working on their autobiographies . I wonder who would be interested !?

  3. Jurie Els has the same lawyer as me - he is d**n good at posponing hearings due to technical glitches, he can find them anywhere.

  4. Thats deep hey?

Its amazing how hypocritical some people can be. It just makes you wonder of the number of people who manage to get away with crime but end up being deemed as saintly by the unaware. Its a shame.

  5. I think the article in Die Burger sums it up. As soon as Retha Meintjies gets the docket from the SAP, they will decided if they are going to prosecute or not. I hope they would, then Mr. Els will be extradicted for trial, hopefully he will return out of his own free will, I would have if I know I was innocent to clear my name....I think he is guilty, what about you? Or rather in such a highly sensitive case, the NPA would be stupid not to prosecute if there is a prima facie case.

  6. I don't want to believe it, but they did leave rather suddenly and why would Robbie accuse Jurie if there is no truth to what he is saying

  7. Zim I saw the other day that the headline on Die Burger was "interpol soek vir jurie" Unfortunately  didn't buy the paper. Gonna try and find it now. . .

    *edit*

Found it Zim! Was actually Die Beeld. Heres the article. . .

  8. This case makes me wonder how much of the crime wave is contrived.

Like the many cases of "hijackings" etc.and so called house robberies.arranged kidnappings.

Most people only hear about the original case, but when the truth comes out its hardly seems worth a mention.

  9. Ha Ha! Just like the blacks blame everything on appartheid, here is an example of whites blaming it on the New South Africa.
