That's pretty much it. The vet removes the testicles. It tends to calm the animal down because there isn't as much testosterone. Also, it corrects habits like humping and prevents accidental offspring.

For neutering, they just sort of cut all the junk off so no more sperm can be produced. So the p***s goes, and so do the testicles, and they're all sewn neatly into a small gash which is quick to heal.

Spaying, in comparison, is more complex.
