id love to help out at my local SPCA but they are just the worst!! if a dog/cat or any animal doesnt get adopted within seven days they kill them. once iwent there i walk through the dog section and on most cages it is written agressive dog and its rediculous, cuz when i got next to the cage the dog would come all happy and l**k ur hand, one day i was there and a guy wanted to take the dog out of its cage to show it to this family and the dog was so scared it just froze, his tail between his legs his ears down, and the man just got mad and started yelling at him the he put a rope around its neck and draged im out by force the dog started yelping and that was it i couldnt take it anymore i started yelling at him and i went to the dog and removed the stupid rope i looked at the dog he was so scared and i petted him to calm him down then i took a couple of steps back and i called him and he came gladly the guy then had me kicked out cuz i was ¨disterbing them¨ most pet owners in montreal would never consider going in there its a horrible place for any animal!!

  1. you are in a different country. here the aspca isn't like that and there is better treatment for them i have had numerous relatives put their time ina nd never did they see what you re saying but i am not sure what they do in canada but what you are saying. i am sorry and i guess you need to volunteer where there is no kill places cause they do have them here and all around.

  2. you should talk to your local police.. that doesn't sound normal at all. they  should not kill them after 7 days!! that is just ridiculous that he flipped out on the poor dog. if the dogs at the SPCA, he was probably abused and he should have known that. none of those people seem suitable to be caring for animals.. if you help out there you would probably help the poor animals feel a lot safer. you seem like a good person and you should deff. talk to your local police.

  3. Every SPCA has a head office. There should be some sort of 'contact us' link on the spca website. Take your time, and write out a full, in depth complaint to them. They may not take action right away, but if enough people complain, legally they have to launch a cruelty investigation.

I was previously an SPCA worker in BC, and I agree, that kind of treatment is uncalled for. If an animal was adoptable, and healthy, it would not be euthanized. We would transfer it to a different shelter if the animal wasnt adopted within 3 months, and so goes the pattern until it gets adopted. The only times we would euthanize is if the animal was violent, or unhealthy.

As far as the poor dog goes, they should be properly training their staff to recognize an actual agressive animal, verus a scared one. They probably put up though signs to cover their butts in case one actually attacks. And dragging an animal out of its cage, and yelling at it when it shy's away is definately not the way to deal with a nervous dog. That's actually a better way to make it attack you if anything!

i actually just took a quick peak, and managed to find an email address for complaints. This does go to the montreal spca itself, not the head office branch. But it's a starting point:

    plaintes@spcamontreal.com

  4. There must be some other place you can go to. What country are you from? You do speak english so if you're from Australia, Canada, UK, or US I'm sure they don't let that happen in some place of the entire country. Just today I saw 4 puppies for free in a petshop where I live in Canada and I was worried of who the owner would be, but this is just way to crossed-the-line. I'm sure some where there should be another animal rescue place? Tell the cops that THEY are the ones doing the cruelty. What sick people would kill them and drag them by a rope!

Go in and search for a "Contact us" sign and tell other people who work there of how they're treating them and that the killing is just too unacceptable, get more people to help you complain for it enough to get the police involved for an investigation.
