If someone gets charged with a misdemeanor/ felony (1, in his whole life) will it affect the chances that someone has to get into a university? What about getting a job? My friend got charged with a misdemeanor when he was about 16, and he asked me to do some research. He wants to become a Biochemical Engineer, and again he is just wondering if his misdemeanor will affect his chances of getting into a good university/ Getting a job. Anyone know any information? Please guys i really need a lot of help, thanks for your time.

  1. No charge you recieve as a juvenile(under 18) can be looked up on your record after you turn 18. A misdemeanor wouldn't effect many jobs even if you were 18 or older when you got it. Most jobs ask if you have ever been convicted of a felony, and if you have, you won't get the job. Some jobs ask about any thing, misdemeanors too. It certainly would hurt your chances. I haven't heard of a university asking about it. They are interested in your grades and subjects. If they did ask about an arrest record, I misdemeanor wouldn't matter, much. Believe me; breaking the law is not worth it.

  2. If your friend hasn't gone to court yet, he can have his lawyer barter with the DA and get it dismissed with a fine and community service.  Usually a misdemeanor is only a stiff fine but the fact it's on his record isn't good. If it's after the fact, he could petition the court to have it taken off of his record.  They can do that since he was a minor at the time and it's a misdemeanor.

If an employer runs a CORI check on someone and charges show up, it could cost the person the job, especially a state and definitely a federal job.  Landlords also run checks on people.  He was 16, young and dumb, (no offense.)  He can definitely get it expunged.

  3. depending on what the misdemeanor is. if you get a Felony id be surprised if you got into a university

  4. You go to jail for 20 years. Wow! I think you just set a record! Nine questions in a row about the same thing under two different identities! Was loosing 45 points worth it??
