I am subleasing and the people who hold the lease have not been paying the lease. There was a court date today that they didn't show up for. How many days do I have to get my stuff out of the house?

  1. Each state is a little bite different its totally depends on the sheriff office in your area but anywhere from a week to several, but at this point better get moving or one day you will find the sheriff officer locking you out

  2. There already may be a padlock on the door.  The court order usually is handed over to the Sheriff the next day.

  3. Since you are out of the loop you won't be receiving any of the notices, they'll go to the evictee.

The sheriff will show up one day very soon unannounced and stack all of your stuff on the sidewalk. The neighbors and passers-by will have a field day and you can't do a thing to stop them.

Why don't you contact the landlord and ask to take over the place?

  4. It varies from state to state and is really up to the court.

Call the Court house and see if you can find out  - they will have specified a date at the hearing.  You will probably need to show them your sublease to prove that you are entitled to that information.

If you are not out by that date, the sheriff can come and remove you.
