What happens after gentrification?

So, when all the yuppies, developers and real capital kicks out the poor and regular people from neighbourhoods located near downtown and when the hipsters aren't hipsters anymore, what happens next?

Are we all going to have to live in poorly developed suburbs in some massive urban sprawl, which will reduce farmland in proximity to urban centres. Will we have to rely even more on oil since the R&D in renewable energy is a joke and those who control the oil business are dishonest crooks?

  1. No, I envision a movement toward vertical urban developments which allow each individual to require less energy to comfortably exist within a modest carbon footprint.

And, this movement will include more modest, but still comfortable and affordable, dwellings for the poor and the working classes.
