  1. They just check you down there to make sure everything is healing nicely, and they will poke around on your abdomen to make sure your uterus is shrinking back to normal size as well.  If you are breastfeeding they may just ask you some questions to make sure that is going okay as well.

  2. At your postpartum checkup, your caregiver will:

    •  Check your weight and blood pressure.

    •  Check your abdomen and b*****s. She'll feel your belly to be sure that there's no tenderness and check your b*****s for lumps and abnormal nipple discharge. If you're breastfeeding, she'll make sure you don't have any clogged ducts or the beginnings of a breast infection.

    •  Inspect your perineum and do a speculum and internal exam. During the speculum exam she'll check to make sure any bruises, scratches, or tears to your cervix or v****a are healing properly and she may do a Pap smear. During the internal exam she'll feel your uterus and ovaries, and check your vaginal muscle tone. She may do a rectal exam as well.

    •  Probably give you the green light to start having s*x again. But don't worry if you don't feel up to it yet. Many new moms don't feel like having s*x for several months (or more!) after having a baby. Your caregiver will talk to you about birth control options during this visit, too. Remember: You can get pregnant even if you're breastfeeding and your period hasn't returned.

    •  Talk over any concerns. You might also have some questions about what exactly happened during delivery and why. Even if your caregiver explained to you what was happening at the time, you may not remember everything that was said. Don't be shy. Ask again now that you're able to listen to and think about the information.

    •  Ask how you're feeling. Make sure to use this visit to talk about any emotional problems you may be having, too. It's normal to have occasional mood swings at this point, but if you think you're suffering from postpartum depression, ask for a referral to a therapist.

    •  Order lab tests (if necessary), and let you know when you should return for routine care, including any follow-up for your chosen contraceptive method.

  3. Pap smear if you were due while pregnant and a general OB exam. . .nothing new or unusual.

  4. It is basically like your first check up. Assuming you had a vaginal delivery they will do a pelvic exam. This will be a little uncomfortable but not to worry it is over in a flash. They will also weigh you, take a urine sample, and they might prick your finger. It has been 4 years so my memory is a little off. The doctor asked questions to make sure I was doing well and of course asked about the baby. Hope this helps!! Good luck with everything!

  5. Your doctor will give you a brief exam to see how well you have healed up, how much weight you have lost, ask how you are feeling and answer questions, and let you know if you can resume your s*x life. The exam is slightly less comfortable than your regular Pap smear but not too horrible.  It is similar to when he/she checks your cervix for dilation.  Hope this helps!

  6. They will give you the trusty Pap Smear and ask you some questions. Normally lasts about 30 minutes.

  7. They will check you downstairs to make sure everything is healing the way it should be, check your tummy, maybe even your b*****s, (make sure to ask questions,) and talk about going back on birth control!

  8. The doctor checked the size of the uterus (he said it was back to normal), and inserted an IUD. I think if you've had stitches they'll make sure those are doing well... they also weighed me, and reminded me to come back in a year for a checkup.
