  1. there are differences at some borders.  but generally your car and insurance and your license will be ok, BUT CHECK FIRST BEFORE YOU DEPART!

the one im familiar with is EU.  ireland, northern ireland, and UK all drive on left.  these all have either ferry boat or auto train service direct to france, which drives on the right.  in this case, the roads/ramps/signs are designed for loading and unloading the train or ferry correctly at each terminal.

im sure this is not exactly what you meant by your question, but this is a "border" with drivers directly.  in fact, on the autotrains thru the chunnel, the passengers stay in the auto, there are no train coaches or diner to go to, so it is almost as if they "drive", they are going directly from UK to france.  see, the licensing and insurance isnt stopping the chunnel from offering "Le Shuttle" autotrains.

not sure about other borders, but there probably is some kind of customs booth and it would be an easy matter to design the lanes to direct the traffic properly.  the road would have to be separated anyway for customs, as customs are usually only done on inbound traffic into a country.

  2. traffic lights and crossover bridges are just a few of the methods to change sides

  3. Im not sure that there would  be anywhere in the world that this would happen.

Not only that, You wouldnt be permitted to drive the car into another country. Insurance, registration and licences would all be null and void.

  4. Chaos.  I have seen it between China and Macau.

  5. At the best, you will be reminded to switch lanes by border guards. At the worst, you will be told that your car is illegal in their country and that you will have to switch cars.

  6. you switch lanes I'd say at a guess. (but I don't drive so don't take my word for it)
