  1. It would be a REALLY GOOD IDEA  to have a manifest made out that lists the entire contents of  the trailer, to present at the Canadian border, to make life a lot easier for yourself.

WHY ? Because the CBSA inspectors don't want to tear it apart, but if they decide to do so, YOU will get to put it all back in the trailer, afterwards. Make life easier for all, by writing out a complete list, that shows what EACH box has in it, and NUMBER the boxes as you load the trailer at home.

Example..........Box one, is books used, box two is CDs used, box three is underwear used ............You get the idea.

The best plan is to try to arrive at the Canadian border at a "off peak hour " such as early morning, or late afternoon on a week day. Avoid mid day on a Saturday or a Sunday, as these are busy times,. By arriving on a off peak time, you will not have to wait as long to be inspected, and trust me, every U hual trailer is going to be inspected for sure.

Your words should be these," I;m an American citizen and   I'm moving to Alaska "  Here is my manifest, nothing is going to be sold in Canada, everything is in transit, to Alaska. Be polite and answer all questions, and it will be OK. Being prepared is all ways appreciated by the folks at the border, in both directions.

I used to cross as a commercial driver, several times each week, taking freight into the USA from Canada, and back again.

And, finally, you will need to prove that you ARE an American citizen, by producing  your ORIGINAL  US birth cerficate ( not a photocopy )  PLUS your State Driver's Licence. Passsports are NOT required to enter Canada by land, untill June of 2009.

Enjoy the drive thru  Canada , it is spectacular .

  2. They may ask for proof you are in transit  .Make sure you have insurance

  3. probably check the truck and check for a passport

  4. They may or may not inspect the U Haul to see what you have in it. They will ask you what you have in there, where you are going, etc.

You will be required to present your identification, whether it be a passport or a government issued photo id(drivers license) and your original birth certificate.

(As of yet you do not need your passport to cross the border via land travel)

  5. they look through the uhaul truck and look at your passports
