  1. They will go through all the skills that you were tested during your NLS and if it has been so long since you took your NLS you may want to take a NLS recert and refresh yourself on everything

  2. I worked as an aquatic supervisor at day camp, and screening at my facility, and other pools as well, is generally done through a carousel process, with each station designed to test specific skills. Typically, the following skills are typically tested:

1)Fitness and Lifeguard Skills. This includes fetching a brick from the bottom of the deep end, deep water spinal roll-ver submerged rescues, and a 20m heads-up approach, rescue, and removal of DNS victim.

    2) Team Rescue: You'll be put in groups of 2-3 lifeguards, and assigned to watch an area of the pool. Other applicants are assigned specific victim roles, and you are expected to react accordingly. You will also be assessed on victim simulation.

3)Personal Interview: Senior staff will ask you a series of questions (i.e. Why do you think you will be a good lifeguard, relevant experience etc.)

    4) CPR: You'll be assessed on child, infant and adult CPR. You should be prepared to handle vomiting and choking procedures, and the use of AED (if the facility has AED) and airway management devices (O2 tanks, articifical airways)

    5) Spinal Roll-overs: You'll have to demonstrate shallow-water roll-overs (Canadian and Vice), boarding and removal.of the victim.

Overall, the most important criteria is decisiveness in crisis situations, and communication with victims and your fellow guards.

Just make sure you are familliar with your NLS skills,a nd you are constantly in communication with your guards/victims, and you'll do fine. Good luck!
