Question:

What happens during pregnancy blood testing? Are there other options?

I have decided to contact my doctor today about getting a pregnancy blood test, since I am a week late and two at home pregnancy tests showed up negative.

How do the blood tests work? How long do they take? I am really not a fan of needles at all... :(

Also, is there another option to see if I'm pregnant? Do doctor's do ultrasounds or anything at this point in time? or is blood test the easiest way?

I would hate to get poked with a needle if there were some other way...ugh.

  1. You can get a home pregnancy test.  You just pee on a stick.

  2. If you are pregnant, they will draw blood regardless and it is necessary. They can probably test for antibodies, blood counts and Rh factor while they're doing the pregnancy test.

  3. they could do an ultrasound, they did it for me when i was pregnant with my second child. that has to be done transvaginally though, and let me tell you-it hurts! or you could also try doing the urine test at the doctor's office. their results are alot more accurate than the at home tests.
