  1. It depends what is included with your spay.

Normally this is what I do at my clinic:

First we do blood work, then we put in a catheter to give your pup fluids through out the surgery. We shave the area around the incision site and clean it throughly. Then we remove the uterus and ovaries through a small incision in the abdominal wall. We use mainly absorable suture, sometimes staples are used. The animal normally gets pain meds and an e collar to ensure no l*****g of the incision site. Also, you must keep your animal very calm and not very active.  There is a follow up in about 10 days.

  2. My 2 got done last week and my cat is being done right now, your dog will be given a injection that calms them. Then a anistetic, basicly the dogs tummy will be shaved and a patch on her arm (for the drip/anestetic). Then her ovaries will be removed, she will be left with a wound about an inch or so long. And in 10 days she will have her stitches out.

When she comes home she will be very very down and may cry for a day or 2. Feed her boiled chicken, scrambled egg or tuna (she prob wnt eat untill the next day).

After 3 days you will notice her comeing back to normal,

    Hope this helps!

  3. your dog is under a full general anaesthetic with a tube down its throat. The vet will cut the dog open down the ventral midline (basically down towards her tail from her belly button) pull out the uterus, tie off the blood vessels and cut it out. She will have a row of stitches holding her abdominal muscle layers back together and her skin so make sure she stays quiet and doesnt bounce around for about a week. She should be fine to eat tonight as well.

ETA most speys are under half an hour unless the dog is particularly large or pregnant.

Make sure she has had an anti inflammatory pain killer and an antibiotic shot before she comes home. I have helped with many as a vet nurse and it sounds a lot worst then it actually is.
