Question:

What happens if 2 drivers lead the same amount of laps and that is the most laps led?

For instance, let's say Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart each lead 100 laps in a race. 100 laps is the most laps led by any driver in that race. Would they each get the 5 bonus points for most laps led, or would no points be awarded because no 1 driver led more laps than anyone else?

I hope all that made sense. lol I wonder if that has ever happened before?

  1. It is a good question but I do  not think it will ever happen the cars are just to close anymore. But looking at the way NASCAR does things the points would most likely go to who is higher in the points standings.

  2. That's a good question. I would be willing to bet that the car with the highest finishing position would get the points for most laps led.

    However, this is purely speculation!

  3. they both get the five bonus points.  (wow, i can give a short answer ;-)

    from jayski:

"Bonus points are giving to any driver who leads a lap and to the driver that leads the most laps is awarded an additional 5 bonus points(in a case of a tie, both drivers get the extra points)."

  4. thanks for unblocking. they both get the points, but this is very rare to happen that 2 people lead the same number of laps.

  5. Wow, this is a great question, I'm sure they would either give them both 10 points or just be safe and 5 points each since neither led more laps than the other..Wow this made me think a day off from work.. I do not think I've ever seen this happen in a race before...well this yr its wild and crazy, and silly this might come up...Great question Lynn.. I say they both 5 points since they both led 100 laps the most in the race, no one lead 101 laps..Dang this is going to make me call my Uncle the Nascar official.

    Go Dale Jr & Hms

  6. i think it would probably be whoever finished in front. like if stewart finished 7 and gordon finished 12, then stewart would get it. (i am not stating a fact, i am giving an example of what i think.)

  7. Im sorry but I have to agree with Buckshot. Thats a great question and I have no idea.

  8. I was thinking 2 1/2 points each.

  9. Okay, if Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart lead the same amount of laps, then NASCAR turns to a fan pole to determine who gets the points.  Fans can text message in their vote, on their Sprint phone.  When this happens, they can dial 1 for Gordon, dial 2 for Stewart, and dial 3 for Earnhardt Jr.  The results would be 11% Gordon, 10% Stewart, and 79% for Jr.

So to answer your, question Jr would get the bonus points.

  10. They both get the bonus points.

It has happend before, in the 1995 Pepsi 400 Jeff Gordon and Sterling Marlin led 72 laps and they both got the bonus.

  11. They will go down the list.

    Most wins

    Points

    etc.

    etc.

  12. Yeah, it happens every so often. The driver with the highest finish gets the bonus.

Unlike the video games were they give all the drivers the bonus. That really bugs me.
