  1. Technically, if you came to America on a tourist visa intending to get married. You lied on your visa application and broke American law.

A few years ago, you had to return to your country and apply for a spousal visa which takes time (how much time depends on the country you are from).

The best thing to do is ask an US government official who has up to date knowledge or do your own leg work as suggested and recommended by other people here.

  2. I just want to second both Yak Rider's and George L's answers -

The rest of the answers you can ignore as they are talking complete S**t.

  3. If you are visiting the US on a tourist visa and marry a US citizen, than you become a US citizen.

  4. if you get married on a tourist visa? do know that it will not affect your situation, it will not change anything, in order to get married with an US citizen, it is not as easy as you may think....you will not be allowed to stay in the US, there are a lot of immigration questions to deal with, being married as a tourist , will not give you any rights in the US,

    you must prove a real relationship with the person whom you are married too;

you will only go back to your country, just as you came,

and the USCIS, will have many questions for the both of you,

your marriage? will only look as an arrangement, nothing more, and the likelihood of looking as serious and coming back to the US? will none to nothing,

    do know that..............

    ps:

    # anyone who are entering tourist to US for the sole purpose of getting married while visiting the country is a FRAUD. You can't do that. The Department of Homeland Security will deport you once they had found out you had misrepresent an infromation to obtain visa. # if you asked for a tourist visa, the purpose  is visiting, not marrying, therefore, you lied to the Embassy on your visa, you used your visa for other purposes.

if it were true that you could marry on a tourist visa? millions would get married that way and never return home,

if you had entered the US on a fiance visa? K1 visa? it is different, but you did not mention that .i maintain what i have written here.

  5. So far the only person here who knows what he's talking about is Yak Rider. If you want to confirm his answer for yourself check out uscis.gov.  You certainly don't become an immediate citizen, that takes at least 3 years after all the proper forms are filled out, etc. And you don't have to leave the US if you came in on a visa. You'd only have to leave if you came in illegally.

  6. Well i am planning to get married to n italian citizen next year..

And its not just about marrying an usa citizen with your tourist visa.

U need to go back home, there are alot of documents you need from the department (as we call it) of home affairs.I need to go to my country of origin to get my documents legalized by the high court and a apostile.

Alot of certification, believe me you better start to do your planning, because tourist visa is not enough.

Just search on the web and they will give you all possible info.

  7. you must need k-1 visa  or k-3 visa.

visitors are not allowed for marraiges.

k-1 fiance`e visa is  save time n trouble.

    goodluck

  8. All the answers before mine are wrong.

If you get married, in the US to a US citizen, and you are here on a tourist visa, you will be allowed to stay and adjust your status.

Your American spouse will need to file the following forms with the Citizenship and Immigration Service.  They all must be filed at the same time.  You do NOT need an attorney to do this for you....

    I-130 petition for alien relative

    I-485 application to adjust status

    I-765 application for employment authorization

    G-325 biographic information

The total cost to file will be about $1,300.  You can find the forms and their instructions here...

    http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/m...

You should get approval of the work permit within 60 to 90 days from the time you file.  You can use the work permit to get a Social Security card.  After you get them you can legally work at any job.

It will take about a year before you get your actual green card.  If you need to leave the US before you receive it you should file form I-131 (application for travel document) with the Citizenship and Immigration Service.

    Best of luck.

  9. You will have to go back home, at least for a little while.  You'll have to apply for a different kind of Visa with the US embassy in your home country.  After a brief wait you'll be able to come back.

  10. My mom got married like that....after you get married you have no more that 6 months to start the whole paper work or you will lose your rights. With  a visa, it does not take more that 5 months to get your temporary residency...there are no multas (penalties)...good luck
