Hi, I have travelled recently by NWA. My itenary was Houston-Minneapolis-Amsterdam-Hyderabad with 3 hrs gap at minneapolis and 2 hrs at AMS. I went to the airport 2.30 hours early, I have checked my baggage, had lunch, and then walked to the gate. My gate was 10, I walked upro gate 9 and thought next one was gate 10 and sat there with out looking at the number. I was just watching movie on my computer thinking I was at the right place. Actually I was sitting at gate 11, and gate 10 was behind me in a corner. I was wondering when will the flight come to gate where I was sitting. The final boarding for my flight at gate 10 was over and they announced my name couple of times I guess. then i went to gate 10 running, they were about to offload my bags, but I went just in time, they allowed me to board and my journey was fine. I still wonder what would have happened to my trip I have missed the first flight, would they send me by another flight or my complete itenary was gone?

Thanks

  1. If you'd missed the first flight, the rest of the itinerary would have been screwed up. Depends on circumstances as to whether the airline will make an effort to get you on the next flight/s ...

Glad you got through, though ... bet you'll be paying more attention next time!  ;-)

  2. They probably would have put you on the next flight, assuming that there were seats available on the next flight. However, they have only one flight to Hyderabad daily. And, the next flight to Amsterdam from Minneapolis arrives too late to make the connection.

You would have to wait until the next day. If that flight was sold out, you would have to wait another day. And so it goes until they had an available seat.

The hotels and meals would have been at your expense since the airline was not at fault.

  3. I've missed a few flights and they usually just rebook you on the next available flight.

  4. I'll play Mr. Negative here, just so people understand what the worst case scenario is.

Once final boarding is completed for a flight, under most US Airlines contracts of carriage, your ticket is null and void.  While the airlines probably will re-book you on a later flight if space is available, they are NOT obligated to.  And since if you miss any leg of a flight your return flight is canceled as well, so missing your outbound flight can possible cause the loss of the entire trip.

Consider this a cautionary tale to pay close attention to gates and announcements..

  5. if u miss a flight they would probably put u on another flight, u ,ight have been able to get it cheaper also because ur bags were already on the flight.
