What happens if I plug a male stereo plug into a female mono + when i plug a male mono into a female stereo?

I'm trying to plug a regular desktop microphone into my Vox DA20 amp (plugging a "1/4inch mono male/3.5mm mono female into the microphone jack on the amp) and want to know if it'l work before I buy the necessary plugs - also, what happens when i plug a mono male jack into a stereo female jack?

you get only one channel usually the the right.

I think it turns your stereo into a transsexual, but don't quote me on that.

In both instances you will get only mono sound.
