Question:

What happens if I put too much frontline on my kitten?

My 9 month old kitten has a serious flea problem. We give her baths, remove them with the comb, and use the front line application that you put on the kittens neck. Today after bathing her my sister put front line on the cats neck, not knowing that I had done it within the last two weeks. Will she be okay?

  1. i think its a 3 month application.i think if you bathed her it would have washed out the old application so should be fine to use new application

  2. call the vet and in the mean time you can baths her with baking soda to neutralize it. we mark it on the calender with a heart sticker so we know when the animals have had meds then we write the animals name in the hearts so we know who it was that got it. then if there is any reaction we can tell the vets the dates.

  3. NO, You need to bathe the cat and get rid of as much of the Frontline  as you can it is poison. Your cat could get very sick if given too much. She is just a kitten, my roommate's kitten died b/c of this same thing.

You need to just wait the fleas will take a bit of time to get rid of. After the Fleas are gone I recommend using "Program" it is safer for kitties.

It will help if you get a flea spray for your furniture and carpet, just make sure it is safe to use around animals, you would be surprised about how poisonous pet product can be.

  4. Call the vet and ask.  It depends on how big your kitten is and how much Frontline you put on her and when the last application was.  It could be that the flea med isn't working on her and you need something else.  Be sure you're vaccuuming and washing bedsheets etc, because she could be picking them up around the house.  If she's an indoor/outdoor cat, she's getting them from outside, so you might want to keep her in for a while.  Also, if she's got flea problems, make sure that you worm her as well, because fleas are usually carriers of tapeworm eggs.

  5. Certainly! The more the better... truthfully... don't worry about her!

  6. Your kitty will be fine. Safety/efficacy tests performed by Merial (the company that manufactures Frontline) have shown that this type of accidental double dosing is, in most cases not detrimental to the animal (though allergies to these products is also possible). Frontline is an excellent product. The most likely cause for reinfestation of your cat is your environment. If you have not done so already, you need to clean your house from top to bottom. This means vacuuming, steam cleaning and using a flea carpet spray in any carpeted areas. Move the furniture to get underneath. Be VERY thorough. The highest percentage of fleas in your home live as larvae in the carpet (I know, nasty). So you have to clean up the environment to prevent reinfestation of your cat.

P.S.  When using environmental flea spray, be sure to follow the directions on the packaging and keep your kitty away from the area for the appropriate amount of time.

  7. I would bath her to get it off, as it attacks the central nervous system and could cause major issues with her health.  Also get her to the vet.

  8. I would call your vet. They would know more than anyone else on here. hopefully your cat will be ok.

  9. What are you bathing her with, and how often?   If you are using a flea shampoo in addition to the frontline, then you are at risk of poisoning your kitten with flea products.  Two frontline applications in two weeks is fine, it's the shampoo I'm concerned about.  And how soon after giving her the frontline was she bathed?  You shouldn't bathe for at least 3 days after giving frontline, as you'll just wash it off.  If you've been bathing her in a flea shampoo, and giving her frontline, then you'd better call the vet as that's way too much.

And cmdancer101 - more is better?  Are you kidding?  There is a reason there are doses on things, and giving more than the recommended dosage of something can have some serious consequences.
