Question:

What happens if I stopped my Prozac for a few days?

This may sound silly, may not. I am supposed to take 40mg of Prozac a day to wing me off of Xanax (1mg). I have not been able to go and pick up my prescription of Prozac, therefore being off of it for about 5days I have been feeling kind of different.

Is this a bad sign?

  1. That sounds about right: unlike the other antidepressants prozac has a long half life in the body- there is even a once weekly version of it.

You might possibly get a "rebound" reaction to the lowering of prozac levels in your bloodstream so I'd try and get it asap.

You'd be better on prozac in the longterm: after a while people are really only hooked on xanax and they have these bizarre reactions if anyone tries to lower their dose...its not true anxiety so much as addiction( withdrawl)...but if you follow your reduction programme and don't try and fight it you'll be off it relatively stress free. You'd never be cured on Xanax...it would merely buffer you for life and become part of the problem...its only useful for short term exacerbations of anxiety or when you get into a dangerous state of mind. Slower acting prozac will eventually cure you if you give it a chance

  2. continue with medications as soon as possible!
