  1. Sperm production in males is brought about by release of FSH hormone by the pituitary gland. This stimulates cells in the seminiferous tubules in the testes to release sperm. Another pituitary hormone ICSH, Interstitial cell stimulating hormone, causes release of testosterone by the interstitial cells in the testes. Testosterone also promotes release of sperm.

    High levels of testosterone have an inhibitory effect on the pituitary preventing futher release of FSH until testosterone levels have fallen to the norm/setpoint. This negative feedback control prevents continuous production of sperm.
