What happens if a party nominee dies before the election?

Saw the question about what happens if they die after the election, but it made me wonder what happens between now and the election if something terrible were to happen to one of them... anyone know?

Answer 1

If there is time, the party would nominate a replacement.

Remember.  The names of the candidates might be on the ballot, but you are actually voting for electors who, by and large, intend to cast their vote for that candidate.

They have until early Jan. to figure it all out.
