What happens if a pigeon egg is wet?

Last week was raining pretty badly and when the mama pigeon came back to do her night shift, she was pretty wet. Without shaking off the excess water on her, I saw her just going straight to sitting on the eggs. So I'm just wondering if this is bad for the eggs since she was covered in cold wet water and whether or not this can have any affect towards the hatching of the eggs

  1. no its actually good...eggs should be kept moist

  2. Many different types of birds will actually go and have a bath and then race into the nest with wet feathers, the humidity is good for the eggs, especially when they are due to hatch as a moister egg is easier for the babies to crack.

However if an egg becomes totally saturated, the chick will drown, as the surface of the egg is actually porous and has tiny holes in it, so water can get in.
