What happens if a player hits a home run and gets injured running around the bases?

A player hits a home run, but while rounding one of the bases, collapses, due to some sort of injury, and cannot finish running around the bases. Do they count it as a home run?

  2. He is summarily shot and the game is replayed in its entirety.  

  3. As long as he made it to first the team could put in a pinch runner to finish the trip to home.

A pinch runner can come in and finish the trip.  In the softball game a previous answer mentioned, the umpire told the coach that a pinch runner COULD NOT enter the game to finish the trip.  Therefore it ended up that they carried the girl around the bases.  So due to an umpire not knowing the rules, a couple of girls got some national television time for their sportsmanship.

  6. In Major League Baseball, the team is allowed to substitute a pinch runner for the injured player. The team is entitled to all the bases, so the PR completes the trot and is credited the run scored (the batter is credited all other stats).

    Very similar situation, in 2005 Gabe Kapler was on 1B when Tony Graffanino homered for the Red Sox. Kapler tore some ligaments rounding 2B and went down. After a few minutes, he was helped from the field (Graf had been crouching between 1B and 2B -- still not permitted to pass a teammate baserunner), a PR went in, and completed the trot.


  7. One time a softball players broke her leg running the bases so her teammates had to carry here around the field.

    I think it will still count.  

  8. Ross Detwiler -acutally the other team carry her around team mates couldn't help her beacuse she would of been called out.

    Though the umpire of softball called them and said you could have a pitch hitter round the bases.
