  1. If a severe or even a non-severe thunderstorm approaches your location the best thing to do is find shelter and stay away from windows.  This will help protect you against lightning and from winds which may blow out windows or debris.

If you are stuck outside and can't find shelter the best thing to do is crouch down and grab your ankles and keep your legs as close together as possible w/o touching.  By crouching down and grabbing your ankles you shorten your height, meaning you become less favorable to be hit by lightning as lightning tends to strike the tallest objects in the area.  With this said DO NOT GET CLOSE TO ANY TALL TREES.  If lightning hits a tree the current can carry through the ground and actually hit you this way.  How you can tell this is by looking at the height of the tree.  You then picture if the tree were to fall down how much ground it would cover.  For example say if the tree was 300FT tall.  If the tree fell it would probably cover 300FT of ground, make sure you are at least 400FT away from the tree to be safe from the current traveling through the ground.

If you are caught out during the pond?  Oh boy, the best thing you can probably do is get the h**l out of there as fast as you can.  There really isn't much you can do to protect yourself except pray really.  You just have to get out of the water as fast as you can.
