  1. the Army, because they are the hardcore branch that they are, gives you what is called Exodus. in other words time off DURING bootcamp! as a Marine i find that hilarious. but, other than that any Army Dog will gladly tell you they are just as tough or tougher than any Marine.

if you don't believe me see how many thumbs down i get!

  2. I guess you spend Christmas in Basic Training!

    doing details, fire guards, cleaning,etc...

I guess you will experience a Hispanic christmas at Lackland AFB!

    Feliz Navidad!

  3. If it does, you should be given 10-14 days leave for Exodus.  Usually your training will end just before Christmas or begin shortly after.

  4. A few people will be allowed to take leave for a short time and the rest will be moved to a holding company for a few days. You will then find one or two suckers to make runs to the package liquor store and hide the stash in the ceiling tiles where around midnight or so a platoon guide will get a guilty conscious and snitch everyone off.

A couple days later when you go back to your company, your DI will give you the speech about being able to do anything you want in the Army as long as you don't get caught. He will then say that you were caught and did not get away with it as they dog everyone out because no one admits guilt to being the ring leader. After about 2 hours of push ups, mountain climbers, log drills your DI will finally be tired of doging you our because he was supposed to be home for dinner two hours ago. He will give another speech spending most of his time two inches from the noses of all the participants doing everything he can to keep from laughing. The following day the snitching Platoon Guide will be fired from his job and sent to another company because he is no longer safe.

Don't ask how I know this. I never confessed.

  5. Usually they schedule it so that you have your x-mas leave after it's done.

  6. Don't worry, Santa will find you where ever you are!

But seriously, thank you for your future service to our country.

  7. My stepson was at Navy Boot camp from Thanksgiving through New years.  Not even a phone call on Christmas Eve or day.   at most you can hope for Sunday routine.

  8. It probably won't.  They schedule the courses to be over before Christmas and not to start until after.  All the instructors like to have Christmas off too.

  9. A lot of factors play into this, such as how far you are into your training cycle, your ability to produce a round trip airline or bus ticket, the good wills of your basic training battalion and company commanders as well as your drill sergeant, and of course, your performance as well as that of your unit; generally you will be granted a 48 to 72 hour pass for Christmas.  If you live across the country they will encourage you to remain local; it's your responsibility to be at your appointed place of duty when your pass terminates!

  10. Flimsy has it right, I don't know what everyone else is talking about.

  11. You will spend Christmas at basic.  And it will be okay.

I spent Christmas at basic and it was, at the time, the best Christmas ever.  Really.  I got to eat a Hershey bar and it was the best Hershey bar ever.  There were no TIs anywhere.  (I'm sure somebody was around somewhere) but I didn't get yelled at once.

I got to read a newspaper and take a regular shower.

    It was great.

  12. no offense, and i'll probably get 12 thumbs down for this, but joining the military means countless missed holidays and missed birthdays. whether you are in iraq, or stateside and they won't give you a pass, thats military life for ya!

  13. nothing, they will probably have christmas style cupcakes at the mess hall
