  1. simply said.  DON'T DO IT!!  The wood will quickly rot and the concrete will crack.  It's definitely bad news

  2. You will collapse the floor. Concrete weighs a lot.

Sounds like you need a contractor to me - just by the questions you are asking.

Get some help before you get in a big mess

  3. If this is just a patch job to get you a couple years down the road-- maybe its an okay idea. But definitely not a good idea as a permanent fix.

  4. You asking for trouble.

    1.  Concrete needs a solid base.  Movement will crack the concrete.

    2. If you put a coating over the concrete it will most likely delaminate off due to the moisture.

    3.  With the weight of shelves the floor maybe under designed to support your loads.

    4.  You should hire a structural engineer to take a look at the loads.  You will save a lot time and money down the road.

    cheers and good luck.

  5. Just so you know it was the Roman ( as in Roman Empire) that invented Cement and used it extensively .. aquaducts..

One lesson they learned early on, you can never allow wood to come in direct contact with the cement...you need a barrier between them; otherwise, cement will " Rot" the wood.
