  1. they would lose points. what they are doing is saluting the judges it shows they are done and respect to the judges

  2. I believe it is for endorsement photo ops.

  3. They get points deducted because it shows that they aren't done.  If they are finished before the music stops, points deducted, if the music stops before they do, points deducted.  Silly, considering these girls are doing amazing things with their bodies but I guess it shows how much practice went into it.

  4. It's part of the routine and they get points deducted if they don't do it. It's the same as when they raise their hand at the beginning of a routine, it's like to say "I've finished".

  5. maybe a simple point deduction

  6. At the start of the exercise, she must present herself in the proper manner (raise up hand/hands) and thereby acknowledge the A1-Judge and then again acknowledge the A1-Judge at the conclusion of her exercise.

  7. the pose at the end of the routine is a salute to the judges.  Just like the one before they begin the routine.  If a gymnast does not salute and starts to leave the apparatus, the judges will deduct .1 - .3 depending on how many steps are taken.

It would take something extreme at the Olympic level for a gymnast to forget to salute.  It has been taught to them since their first competition at the compulsory levels.

  8. i know it looks g*y, but its part of the beauty of the routine. gymnastics is an art.

  9. to signify their routine is done. if they completed a vault and immediately started walking off, how would anyone know if they had stuck the landing or not? any steps on the landing are counted as deductions until the gymnast is firmly in place and has raised both hands in a salute. they do this before the routine too. Between the beginning and end salute, EVERYTHING counts.
