i was pulled over for going 51 in a 35mph zone. the officer gave me a "nottice to appear" it had a date and time to where i needed to show up. i recently recived my courtesy letter that said that my bail amount is $273. this is my first time going to court and i do not know what is going to happen. So i do not know whether i should plead guilty or not guilty or no contest. what should i do? and will there be any way that i could lower my bail amount if i show up to court?

  1. I don't know the law in your particular state, but no contest is a guilty plea. Bail is usually paid to have you released from jail then forfeited if you do not appear in court.

  2. You don't have to go to court unless it is stated as so. You can mail in your payment to the address on the letter. You only need to go if you are going to fight the ticket. No contest means you are not going to contest the ticket. you'll have to contest it if you want to try to lower the amount. You have to paay the ticket by the due date even if you contest it.  My husbaqnd just did it over the phone. He paid the fine and requested a court date. You  will need to build a case of why you did not deserve the ticket. Whatever you do, make sure you pay the fine by the due date. You can pay it over the phone too. You can also request traffic school to eliminate it from being sent to the DMV. Call the court house listed on your citation and ask any questions you may have, They will help you too.
