Im in 9th grade and im about to take a end of the school year standardized test issued by the city i live in. I was wondering what would happen if i fail this test? would i be sent to public school? would i have to do 9th grade over again? This test isnt part of my homeschooling program so im not sure. My grades are in the mid 80s in most of my classes, if that helps any.

  1. I can only tell you what it means in our state... nothing.

I was very happy that my son did well on the test but if he had not done well, I would have just said  "what do they know?" and went on with our lives.

I have my son's public school records in a file.  If they were to question anything that we do now, I'd just pull out the public school file and let them see the improvement since being taught at home.

  2. Well, you don't "fail" a standardized test.  However, if your state or virtual school (if you're using one) has a certain cut-off to remain HS'ing or in a VS, then you could "not pass".

You'll probably do **much** better than most of the PS'ed students in your area.  Here in our district, high school students average 40's in English and 30's in math.  It's *very* sad.  The suburban districts do much better, but still, around 75% is usually the mean on these tests.  That means that most people score on either side of that.  If you get a score of 80th percentile, it's not an 80% like on an exam.  It means that you did better than 80% of the students who took the test...and 20% did better than you.

  3. You have to tell us which state/province you live in. It all depends on the laws where you live so we really can't tell you without additional information.

  4. Here is a website that should tell you all about your Colorado's standardized testing.  Personally, if you are making mid-80s, I don't think you will have a problem.  You'll probably do much better than most public school kids!!!
