they can also issue a bench warrant, so that if you're stopped for a traffic citation, for example, and they run your name, you get a nice place to sleep until you bail out.  

Just go--jury duty is actually a lot of fun.  If you don't want to be on a jury, then be a suicide bomber when they do voir dire ("He just LOOKS guilty to me") or ("Jeez, did the DA overcharge this one!") and you'll be outta there so fast. . . .

If you do not go to jury duty you could go to get fines al the way to jail time, especially if you are picked to be a juror and you don't show up.
