I live in Los Angeles. I have to report to jury duty this upcoming week, but would like to skip it or postpone it for a later date. I have a non emergency that will prevent me from attending. I have already used my extension from a previous date! What are the consequences for a no show?

  1. have fun in jail or get yourself a good book or bring something to do. take this as a good time to be bored out of your mind.... sat there for like 5 hrs bored out of my mind but did not get picked was glad because the trial was going to be a long one. not looking forward to the next time but realizing it is my civic duty and that i would rather not end up in jail - and that is my life story jack-

  2. Like the first poster said you would be arrested. It is your civic duty as an upstanding American citizen to go to jury duty. Its MANDATORY. NO ONE can get out of jury duty. They dont care what you have to do, if your not in court your in BIG trouble.

  3. How would you feel, if you had to depend on individuals who are responsible for justice in your trial, that had the attitude of not wanting to participate in the government.

It is your duty, as an adult, to vote, pay taxes, and sit on a jury. People depend on you for justice.

A jury is a group of people, from varying walks of life, who will see the problem before the judge from different angles, and will sort out the truth.

A professional jury would/could bring a verdict on reasons other than truth.

Its a pain, but there are several 'exemptions" from jury duty. I have severe Narcolepsy, and have never sat ona  jury.

The court is understanding, and useing the system, jury duty can be moved, or exempted.

If you dodge jury duty, you could end up in contempt of court, and in jail.

  4. contempt of court, a day or three in jail, a large fine and an order to serve no matter what.

  5. not good...not good at all.

i would probably come up with an emergency!

  6. Where's the sense of duty?

  7. you go to jail jack...

  8. consequences for a no show is a warrant for your arrest.  just go to jury duty.  we are all americans and that is part of being an american.  jury duty should be just as important as whatever else you have to do that day.  it's not like they told you the day before so you've had time to make arrangements.

  9. 10 lashes

  10. contempt of court and warrant  for your arrest

  11. just go and try to get excused.  day care might work for you .  vacation plans also a good reason.  if you have to go through it ,  you can answer the questions ,  no i don't think i'm impartial  etc. etc.

  12. at the very least, show up and see if you can extend or stick it out and hope you don't get seated, or that you get booted.  consequences for not showing up will not be worth it.  warrant for your arrest--although i have to say, i know people who've thrown those things out and still haven't gotten "caught" yet.

  13. probably not to much, Ive had a few jury duty notices but i smoke and I'm not sitting in there all day if selected , if they are not willing to work with me I'm not working with them

    that's how i feel

but some states can be harder about it than others

i think its been 5 in my 22 years of being able to be selected that i missed, so don't believe they will be at your door tomorrow

    just telling the truth
